Canoe & Kayaking

Sparta is in the Driftless Region; known for its beautiful scenery. Take it all in on a canoe or kayak excursion!

Day 1:

8:00 – Grab a quick breakfast at Kwik Trip or Burger King.

8:30 – Drive to Pine View Campground at Fort McCoy to get everything you need to kayak or canoe including paddles and life jackets.

9:30 – Start canoeing at Angelo Pond and finish at Amundson Park in Sparta.

12:30 – Enjoy lunch at The Greens located on the beautiful River Run Golf Course.

1:00 – Experience more of the calming beauty of the Driftless Region on horseback at Red Rock Riding Trails. See the unique “Redrock” and surrounding land that has been passed down for four generations!

4:30 – Check into one of Sparta’s premier log cabin lodging at Justin Trails Resort or Grapevine Log Cabins or Pine View Campground.

5:00 – Enjoy some Chicago-style pizza after a busy day at Slice of Chicago. (608) 269-2181.

7:00 – Stop by The Beer Shop just down the street. Part beer store, part beer bar – it’s the perfect place for a refreshing beverage!

Day 2:

7:00 – Start out the morning right with a hearty breakfast at the Sparta Family Restaurant. Huge menu and friendly atmosphere.

8:00 – Experience the Kickapoo River on canoes and kayaks. Drive to Ontario, WI to rent canoes/kayaks/tubes from Titanic Canoe Rental. They will get you everything you need including paddles, life jackets, and shuttle service.

1:00 – Lunch at Culver’s and enjoy their famous Butter Burgers. Finish with a dish of their flavor-of-the-day frozen custard.

2:00 – Enjoy a walking tour of Sparta’s historic downtown shops including KEPS Naturals, Search & Find, and Wesco,

5:00 – Dinner at The Zone Sports Bar and Grill. Homemade pizza, charcoal chicken, and so much more!

7:30 – Finish your day with a sunset stroll across Sparta’s Unique Community Bridges, including the Beaver Creek Covered Bridge, Mary Morrows Bridge, the Pointe Covered Bridge, The Five Shovelmen Bridge, The Love Locke Bridge, and the Ben Bikin’ Park Footbridge. Enjoy a glass of wine or bourbon at the Cork and Barrel.

Day 3:

8:00 – Breakfast at Sparta Family Restaurant. With a variety of hearty breakfast options, there is something that everyone will enjoy!

9:00 – Enjoy a fun day in the outdoors at Pine View on Fort McCoy. Rent paddleboats, canoes and kayaks, or just go for a swim at their beach. Enjoy the biking and hiking trails or play some disc golf or mini golf!

1:00 – Lunch at Jakes Northwoods Restaurant on your way back from Fort McCoy. All their food is cooked to order with only the freshest ingredients.
